Princeton Coffeehouse set for Saturday
PRINCETON — Acclaimed musicians Kat Eggleston and Kate MacLeod will perform together in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Princeton Coffeehouse.
Eggleston and MacLeod are both accomplished singer/songwriters in the folk, celtic and traditional music genres. Eggleston plays guitar and the hammered dulcimer and MacLeod, guitar and violin. While they each regularly perform solo and with other artists, they have a special affinity for performing together. It is a rare occasion to have them together in the Midwest.
After 20 years in Chicago, Eggleston is now back home on Vashon Island, Wash., where she grew up. MacLeod, who was originally drawn to Utah to attend a school for violin making, has long called Salt Lake City her home. The two artists were introduced to each other through their affiliation with Waterbug Records. Each has recorded several individual CDs as well as a 2002 duet recording “Drawn From the Well.” Sing Out magazine called it a “heavenly CD of traditional and original songs ... two expressive but distinctly different voices twine around their songs.”
Together Eggleston and MacLeod have appeared at folk festivals and concert series around the country, including at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago and the New Bedford, Mass., Folk Festival. While still in Chicago, Eggleston was involved in musical theatre, including two seasons in Michael Smiths’ “Snow Queen” at the prestigious Victory Gardens. In Utah, MacLeod leads master classes and workshops in fiddle-playing.
This year both Eggleston and MacLeod have released new CDs. Eggleston’s is titled “Speak.” MacLeod’s, released last month, is titled “Blooming.”
