Bachman and Barnett named October Teens of the Month

PRINCETON — Hannah Bachman of Princeton High School and Dane Barnett of Bureau Valley High School have been named Elks Teens of the Month for October.

Princeton Elks Lodge Youth Activities Chairman Penny Best made the announcement of the award winners at the Oct. 9 luncheon meeting at the Elks Lodge.

Also honored at the Oct. 9 luncheon were Teens of the Month representatives Mary Bartoli of LaMoille High School; Denise McDermott of Ohio High School; Nicholes Kelsey and Laura Ford, both of St. Bede Academy; Julia Edington and Jonathon Stuckert, both of Hall High School; Abigail Nielsen of Bureau Valley High School; Dane Stier of Princeton High School; and Lorena Escatel of DePue High School.

The daughter of Beth Gerig and Dean Bachman, Hannah is a senior at Princeton High School and is ranked fourth in her class of 134 students. She has a grade point average of 3.978 and an ACT score of 26. She has been on the PHS honor roll for four years and a member of the National Honor Society for the last two years, serving as NHS vice president her junior year.

She has been a member of the mixed chorus and swing choir for three years each, and band, marching band, concert band and pep band four years each. She has also participated in Madrigals for three years, Star Spangled Singers two years, and taken private piano lessons for four years. She serves as the choir co-treasurer and show choir choreographer. She has also been the concert choir accompanist for three years and a member of the International Thespian Society for two years.

She has participated in school plays, musicals and Homestead Festivals. She is also a member of the German Club, Drama Club, Food Club, Book Club and Movie Club. She participated in volleyball and cross country two years and soccer four years. She received all-conference academic recognition in soccer and cross country during her junior year.

For community service, she has participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister after school program, volunteered at Menno Haven Camp and Retreat Center, and helped with Special Olympics. She has worked at a soup kitchen in Chicago, swept sidewalks in Columbus, Ohio, and worked with emergency preparedness programs. She’s also been a recreation leader for Vacation Bible School.
