Tiger trio earns NCIC honors

Princeton landed three players on the NCIC First-Team All-Conference soccer team.

Senior Scott Roseberg, who was also named all-sectional, was chosen for the fourth time to the NCIC first team. PHS coach Jason Bird believes Roseberg may be the first player to be named all-conference all four years.

He’s joined this year by junior teammates Reiter Bird (forward) and Zach Rosene (defender). Bird had 16 goals and six assists this season; Roseberg had 15 goals and seven assists.

Three more Tigers were named to the second team — sophomore Jacob Fisher and senior defenders  Justin Jenkins and John Zearing and three — received honorable mention — sophomores Gabe Kelly (midfielder), Austin Burrows (defender) and freshmen keeper Nolan Piper.

The NCIC first team included seniors Chris Olivera and Will Carruthers of IVC, Garrett Kerr and Damian Hale of Dixon, seniors Colin Pullman, Hunter McVietty and Ben Rudy of Geneseo, Matthew Olivero of L-P, Jose Espinoza of Mendota, Eduardo Lopez and Zach Verchimack of Morris, Pepe Navarro of Sterling and Noah Horaney and Logan Pflibsen of Streator, juniors Brad Schreiner of IVC, and Cesar Conzalez of Dixon, Mason Rowe of Ottawa and sophomore Eddie Chavez of Sterling.

First-team keepers were Chad Bahr of Dixon and Jacob Arnold of Geneseo.

• Roseberg was named all-sectional, picked from 20 1A-3A north central Illinois teams from the Quad Cities to Rockford. He was honorable mention all-sectional last year.

• Keith Country Day School beat Earlville/Leland 5-3 in Tuesday’s Princeton Sectional finals in Tiskilwa. KCDS advances to state to face Waterloo Gibaul at 7:30 p.m. Friday in  Naperville.
