Captain Dan Roach, commander of the Illinois State Police District 17, has announced results of the Give-Em-a-Brake Zone construction project for Bureau County.

The details were worked during September, with a total of 15 citations and 29 written warnings issued. Fourteen of the citations were for speeding.

Roach said a person found guilty of speeding in a construction zone could be fined a minimum of $375. A second and subsequent offense could result in a $1,000 fine and a 90 day driver's license suspension. In addition, a driver who injures or kills a worker is subject to a maximum $10,000 fine and 14 years imprisonment, Roach said.

The GABZ patrols are worked in and around construction zones and are designed to promote a safer atmosphere for the workers as well as other motorists. The GABZ hireback patrols are funded through a grant provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
