Street upkeep on Bureau agenda
BUREAU — The Bureau Village Board is hoping to literally clean up the town’s streets as the winter weather approaches.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, board members addressed the need to fill potholes as well as a general tidying up of autumn debris. They also acknowledged that some streetlights might be blocked by overgrown tree branches.
Another item on the agenda is the updating of weathered street and traffic signs around town, as well as the possibility of new signs. The board will be taking inventory and looking into pricing regarding the replacement of existing signs, while investigating the potential sites of new signs.
In other business, the board:
• Terminated the part-time position of superintendent of streets and alleyways held by Chief of Police James Shipp.
• Reviewed the procedure regarding the transfer of village citations from law enforcement officers to village attorney Dan Tracy.
• Approved money spent to repair the village owned work truck. Village Mayor Rodney Crowther said the expense comes out to about $400. The truck is used for various village jobs such as cemetery upkeep. The general consensus by the board was to make the necessary repairs to get the truck through winter before deciding next year on the truck’s fate.
Crowther reported that operational water meters are now installed in all village homes.
