PERU — Three students have been named as Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit scholarship Program by St. Bede Academy Principal Michelle Mershon.

A letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program, will be presented to Stephen Puhr, son of Timothy and Julie Puhr of Princeton, Gwen Schulte; daughter of William and Margarret Schulte of Granville; and Joseph Tiger, son of Blair and Carolyn Tiger of Spring Valley.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the United States are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Although they will not continue in the 2010 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students place among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test.
