PRINCETON — The Book Club will meet at the Princeton Public Library at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, to discuss the book “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. The Princeton Fire Department will visit the library with a fire truck for students and families to learn more about the department from 4 to 5 p.m. The department will present a program on fire safety at 7 p.m.
Songwriter/performer Bucky Halker will present a program at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Perry Memorial Hospital Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
A preschool story hour will be held Tuesday with the theme “Owls.” The program will be held in the Youth Services Department, and preschool children and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend. Also on Tuesday, the Retail Development Group will meet at 3 p.m., and Gamma Phi will meet at 4:30 p.m.
The library board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The public is invited to attend.
On Nov. 19, the Early Beginnings Play Group will meet at 9:30 a.m., and an After School Craft Day will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and focus on Native American Crafts. The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m.
SPRING VALLEY — Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library, will offer a “Rules of the Road Review” course Friday. The course is free and is designed to help participants pass the Illinois driver’s license renewal examination. For more information, call (815) 663-4741.
WYANET — The Raymond A. Sapp Library’s 2nd Thursday@the Library presents Jane Ann Moore celebrating the lives of Owen and Elijah Lovejoy and their work at 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday. The long-time student and scholar of the Civil War, African-American History and the Antebellum era will present “Elijah and Owen Lovejoy: Heroes of Anti-slavery in Illinois.” The public is welcome to attend, and refreshments will be served.
In November, the library’s Computer Users Group will learn the ins and outs of publishing a book. Dorene Stalter will take the group from the written word to the published word. Any questions, call the library at (815) 699-2342.
The Wyanet Library’s Book Group will meet on Nov. 19 following the library’s Family Reading Night. For this next meeting, the group is reading “The Great Stink” by Clare Clark.
MINERAL — The Book Discussion at the Mineral Gold Library will meet on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Contact the library for more information.
TISKILWA — “Extra Help” (Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy) will be offered at the Tiskilwa Public Library at 2 p.m. Nov. 23. On July 15, 2008, Congress passed the Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act, which made three key changes to Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy applications filed after Jan. I, 2010. A representative from the Social Security Department in Peru will be available to answer general questions about Extra Help as well as other Social Security-related questions. The program is free. LADD — The Ladd Public Library is having preschool story hours at 10:30 a.m. the first and third Monday of each month. These sessions include stories, activities and a craft. They are designed for ages 3 to 5 with a parent or guardian.
LASALLE — The LaSalle Public Library will host folk musician and balladeer Lee Murdock in a holiday concert at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The centerpiece of the concert, Murdock’s song “The Christmas Ship” commemorates the turn of the century tradition of carrying Christmas trees to Great Lakes port cities during the great days of sail.
