Retired teachers meet in Toulon
TOULON — The Henry-Stark County retired teachers were welcomed by the Toulon Congregational Church for a fall luncheon Nov. 4. Visiting State President Steve Polep shared highlights of the recent state convention in Springfield attended by local officers and board members. President Sue Busenbark and Information Services Chair Roger Hawk shared updated insights on the topical issues of pension, insurance and the lack of full social security benefits.
Miriam Gustafson was recognized for her achievements and for the honor of being installed into the first Wethersfield Educational Hall of Fame
One year ago, Betty McNaught of the health department made an appeal for volunteers to help with a mock procedure for a pandemic crisis held last June. A year later, she updated us on a need for volunteers for the “real thing” as clinics are being held for the H1N1.
Installation of officers for the coming year was completed at the close of the meeting including presidents Sue Busenbark and Joci Saline; treasurer Carol Lee Cole and secretary Carolyn Taylor. A vice president will be named at a later date.
Jean Mann was recognized for her seven years of service as an efficient secretary. Her husband, Roger, was also instrumental in designing a Web site for the organization.
A framed quilt piece was presented to the president for continuing to “hold the organization together.”
An organizational meeting of board and officers for 2010 will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 27.
