IVC falls in Hall supersectional

Chillicothe IVC saw its volleyball season end at Red Devil Gymnasium in Spring Valley for the second season in a row.

The Lady Grey Ghosts fell to Harvard 16-25, 31-29, 25-20, in Saturday’s Spring Valley 2A supersectional. IVC (30-6) had two match points in the second set to put away the Hornets and advance to the 2A Final Four state tournament in Normal but came up short.

IVC fell to Princeton in last year’s regional semifinals at Hall, and Princeton went on to reach the state finals.

Harvard (26-12) advances to Normal where it will face Chicago Christian at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Redbird Arena. Freeburg will face Carlinville in the first 2A semifinal at 11:30 a.m.

Girls’ soccer

At DeKalb: The Princeton Panthers, sponsored by Browning Ford and Mendota Tire, defeated The Rush in an U-14 girls team indoor soccer game Saturday in DeKalb, 9-0. Goals were scored by Jennifer O’Neil, Taylor Tieman, Eliza Young, Kim Schlesinger and Keyenna Altizer with Lindsay Hartwig on goal.

Junior college

Volleyball: IVCC fell to Kishwaukee 25-10, 25-17, 25-14, in the regional semifinals Saturday, ending its season at 16-22.

Basketball: The IVCC women opened the 2009-10 season under first-year coach Pat Cinotte with a 90-72 win over Waubonsee in the tournament in Sugar Grove. Preseason All-American Virginia Trotter scored 21 points, and Shan-non Washington added 19.

On Saturday, IVCC fell to Parkland 76-47. Washington had 19 points again

Junior high basketball

At Ottawa: Garrett Duffin scored nine points to lead Princeton Logan to a 22-18 win over his former hometown Ottawa Shepherd Thursday in seventh-grade boys’ basketball. The Lions won 47-31 in the eighth-grade game behind Ryan Hicks and Tyler Marvin, who scored 14 points each.
