Blood drive
WALNUT — Walnut Boy Scout Troop 53 will sponsor a blood drive with the American Red Cross from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Masonic Lodge, 133 Main St., Walnut. Their goal is 100 units to celebrate 100 years of scouting. Appointments can be made by calling (815) 535-8196. Walk-ins are welcome.
Bake sale
PRINCETON — The Bureau County Red Cross holiday bake sale will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 and from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 5. This will be held in conjunction with the annual BCHC Cookie Walk at the Prouty Building in Princeton. All proceeds will go to the Bureau County Red Cross.
Internet safety
LAMOILLE — The LaMoille-Clarion Library, in partnership with LaMoille High School, Ladd Public Library, Ohio Public Library and Pankhurst Memorial Library in Amboy, will present a program on Internet safety to parents and children of all ages at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at LaMoille High School. Sarah Nigas, Internet safety specialist with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, will be the speaker.
Dinner planned
DEPUE — The DePue/Bureau County Democrats will have its Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the VFW Hall in DePue. Members and guest are invited but reservations are needed. Meeting set
PRINCETON — Professional Home Economists of Bureau County will meet at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 30 at the home of Carol McGee, 906 S. Main St., Princeton. This will be a time of sharing favorite recipes, vacation ideas, crafts and hobbies, new products or a special restaurant. Lunch will be served, and reservations are requested as soon as possible by calling Carol McGee at (815) 875-8491.
Open house
BRADFORD — The public is invited to an open house displaying embroidered and crocheted items made by ladies form Haiti. The open house is from noon to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the home of Delores Duckworth, 344 Enterprise Drive, Bradford. All proceeds from the sale of the items go to the Haitian ladies, and the school where they are trained.
Christmas parade
PRINCETON — The Princeton Lions Club is inviting Bureau County businesses, clubs and organizations to enter a float or unit in the Christmas parade. The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Nelson’s Drug Store and end at Soldiers and Sailors Park. This year’s parade theme is “The Sights and Sounds of Christmas through a Child’s Eye.” Santa’s helpers will be collecting food items for the food pantry along the parade route. Any paper products, dried or canned goods will be appreciated. Those interested in entering the parade can call Princeton Lions members Don Smith at (815) 875-3475 or Jim Argo at (815) 872-6181.
Cookie/bake sale
PRINCETON — A cookie sale, sponsored by the Bureau County Home and Community Education Association, will be held along with an American Red Cross bake sale Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5, at the Prouty Building. Friday hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be decorated Christmas trees with holiday gifts for sale and Red Cross first aid kits suitable for holiday giving will be available.
Elks memorial service
PRINCETON — The Princeton Elks Lodge is inviting all family and friends of deceased members to a deceased member memorial service at 5 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Lodge. The Rev. Laura Root will conduct the eulogy and Mark Horwitch will provide music selections. A sandwich supper will follow the service.
Fundraiser planned
PRINCETON — A Princeton After School Program all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Spaghetti Express. Tickets are $6 and include spaghetti, garlic bread and beverage. Carryouts are available.
Christmas market
BISHOP HILL – The holiday season will be opened the traditional Swedish way during Julmarknad, or Christmas Market, to be held Nov. 27, 28 and 29 and Dec. 5 and 6 at Bishop Hill State Historic Site. Julmarknad is reminiscent of medieval Scandinavian markets featuring the handcrafted wares of local artisans. Visitors will find the entire village adorned with traditional Swedish holiday decorations. Stores will have ample supplies of traditional decorations, pottery, baskets, brooms, toys, food and other items for sale. The Julmarknad will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
