CHICAGO — Gladys I. Pratt, 81, of Chicago, formerly of Princeton, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Chicago.

Born May 5, 1928, in Princeton to William and Lucy Belle (Chase) Sledgister, she married Lyle L. Pratt June 27, 1946. He preceded her in death.

She attended Princeton Township High School and graduated in 1946. She worked for Kroger for a few years in the 1940s and was also involved with the family business, Pratt’s Flowers & Greenhouse. She was a life-long resident of Princeton, except for the past several years when she lived at Bethany Retirement Community in Chicago.

She attended both the First Christian Church and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Princeton. She was active in Home Bureau Extension, the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served in many capacities at both the local and county level, Princeton Junior Woman’s Club and Beta Sigma Phi.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda S. Pratt of Chicago; one son, Steven L. Pratt of Springfield; and two grandchildren, Lyle T. Pratt and Evan Pratt of Springfield.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Flinn and Edith Ballard.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Arlene Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton.

Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
