Tigers, Red Devils earn NCIC honors
Princeton had five members and Hall placed six on the 2009 NCIC Lincoln First-Team All-Conference football team. They had 22 players honored between them.
PHS senior Brik Wedekind secured a hat trick with first-team honors at quarterback, punter and place-kicker. Teammate Drew Compton went first team both ways at running back and linebacker.
For Hall, first-team honors went to Jon Stuckert, unanimous at offensive line, senior Nathan Tucker at running back, senior Cody Whightsil as coverage specialist, seniors Gabe Leonard and Justin Nambo at defensive line and senior Michael Swingel at linebacker.
Lining up as second team are Princeton’s Jacob Robinson and Jake Holland as offensive linemen, Tyler Tyne and Brewer Ary as defensive linemen.
Second-team selection also went to Hall’s Austin Urbanski and Frank Alfano, both seniors, as offensive linemen, junior Austin Helm at offensive end, senior Tyler Sobin as defensive linemen and junior Anthony Urbanski at defensive back.
Honorable mention went to Hall’s Mitch Brannon, Tyler Moore, Matt Haun, Bryce Quinn, Ricky Gaeta and Mike Crew and Princeton’s Adam Fredenhagen and Anthony Griffin.
Other NCIC first-teamers included offensive linemen Cory Myers and Nick Green of Mendota, Thomas Foley and Luke Bartlett of IVC and Rock Falls’ Bobby Clapper.
At the end position, Vince Bruno of Mendota was an unanimous selection, joining him with first-team honors are IVC’s Chris Martin and Tevin Rumley of Rock Falls.
At running back, Dan Semtner of IVC, and Mendota’s Kurtis Knapp earned a unanimous first- team nod.
Knapp also was a unanimous first-team selection at return specialist, he was joined there by Keegan Horack of IVC.
Other special teams’ first-team honors went to kicker Jordan Fritz and coverage specialist Zachary Lewis, both of Mendota.
On the defensive line, first-team honors went to unanimous picks Thomas Foley of IVC and Alex Caruso of Mendota. Joining them were Nick Green of Mendota and Rock Falls’ Bobby Clapper.
IVC’s Jared Lauber and Mendota’s Robert Watson were unanimous selections at linebacker. They were joined on the first team by IVC’s Cody Boswell.
Mendota’s Vince Bruno, along with Keegan Horack and Cody Kentzel of IVC were unanimous first-team defensive back picks. Mendota’s Knapp also earned first-team honors.
