OHIO — The Ohio Grade School board took action on the following items at its meeting Oct. 20:

• Approved the 2010 School Library Per Capita Grant application.

• Approved resolution to reduce tax burden on the Ohio Community upon receipt of additional tax revenue from the wind farm project.

• Approved to refund the Illinois State Board of Education an overpayment to the district for Special Education Individual Orphanage in the amount of $3,444.86.

• Approved life safety smendments to repair the sewer problem, install new gutters and install a strobe light for the cafeteria.

• Heard district architect Dennis Parkins inspected for new life safety amendments, completed the 10-year life safety inspection, and approved the report. He will begin processing the completion information for the state.

• Heard an update on findings made during the regional office annual inspection. There was a broken exhaust fan in a bathroom which has since been fixed. The state fire marshal wanted exit signs posted in the library and locker rooms, and these have been ordered and will be installed as soon as they arrive. The strobe light for the cafeteria will be taken care of as soon as the paperwork goes through for the life safety smendment.

• Heard both Ohio districts are fully recognized, which means they have met all the standards required by the Illinois State Board of Education.

• Heard boys' basketball had started and there were 13 boys out. The cheerleaders and the boys each won first place at the Malden Tournament.

• Discussed the cost of changing the grade school uniforms from blue and gold to purple and gold. It will be an action item at the November meeting.

• Accepted the resignation of Laura White as bus driver and special education teacher's aide effective immediately. The board approved for Superintendent Sharon Flesher to employ a new special education teacher's aide.
