PRINCETON — Princeton Police, assisted by the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police, arrested two people late Thursday afternoon after a manhunt that included the shutdown of two local schools.
Police apprehended Jarrod E. Williams, 30, of Princeton and Jillian M. Kavinsky, 29, of Manlius at Kavinsky’s home in Manlius about 5:30 p.m.
The incident began when police responded to a call of a male subject with a knife at 2 p.m. Thursday.
According to police, officers responded to a call of a male subject with a knife in the vicinity of the 400 block of South Anderson Street. Upon arrival, police were met with a female subject who had been struck in the face by a known assailant.
Police reported the woman told them Williams forced his way into her apartment, beat her, and then fled the scene on foot after stealing an unknown amount of prescription drugs and an unknown amount of cash. According to the report, Williams displayed a knife and threatened to cut the woman if she did not give him the drugs and cash.
An immediate manhunt began, and police searched the area and the immediate vicinity with the K9 unit. Police Chief Tom Root said he notified St. Louis and Lincoln schools for the safety of the students, and both schools were put on lockdown until police determined Williams was no longer in the area.
Police said Williams was seen prior to the incident with a female subject in an older white Nissan-type pick-up truck. An Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network message was put out, and local and state police agencies were notified and assisted in the manhunt.
“It was a combined effort,” Root said. “There was real teamwork from the time of the incident to the apprehension.”
Williams and Kavinsky were arrested on charges of home invasion and residential burglary and transported to the Bureau County Jail, where they are being held on Class X felonies with no bond.
