PRINCETON — We the People will meet at the Princeton Public Library at 6 p.m. today, Thursday.
A preschool story hour will be held Tuesday with the theme of pine cones and acorns. The program will be held in the Youth Services Department, and preschool children and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend. The Princeton Area Home Educators will meet at 7 p.m.
The Princeton Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Dec. 10 to discuss “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms” by Gail Tsukiyama.
LADD — The Ladd Public Library will host story teller Helen Thomas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday as part of the Ladd Christmas in the Village activities. Librarian Amy Galetti-Bosi said during this time, they will also be selling books, cookies and angels for the window.
These fundraisers are being conducted to raise money to go toward the Libri Foundation
Grant. For every dollar raised, the Libri Foundation will give the library two additional dollars to spend on children’s books for the library. “This is a great chance to support your library and enjoy some yummy treats or a good book, too!” Galetti-Bosi said.
The library also has preschool story hours at 10:30 a.m. the first and third Monday of each month.
The book club will also meet at 6 p.m. Monday to discuss “The Lace Reader” by Brunonia Barry. The selection for next month is “The Gift” by Richard Paul Evans. Anyone wishing to join may contact the library for details.
MINERAL — The Book Discussion at the Mineral Gold Library will meet on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Contact the library for more information.
LAMOILLE — Confused about the changes to Medicare in 2010? LaMoille-Clarion Public Library will have a representative from the Social Security office at the library at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 15 to explain the Medicare changes and answer any questions you may have. If you or a loved one have Medicare, please plan to be here.
Also, a Christmas/winter story hour will be held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 19 in the children’s area. There will be stories, snacks, a craft and lots of fun.
The library has added some great new Christmas books to adult circulation plus many new fiction and non-fiction titles. New children’s titles include many of the books nominated for the 2010 Rebecca Caudill Young Reader’s Award. Stop in and check them out!
WYANET — The Wyanet Library’s Computer Users group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond A. Sapp Memorial Township Library.
The 2nd Thursday@the Library program in December will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10. Adrian Lind from Walnut House will talk about the Walnut business and holiday floral arrangements.
In December the book group will celebrate with a dinner. In January, the group will read “The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros.
SHEFFIELD — A deliciously educational evening was had by all who attended the Sheffield Public Library’s cooking fundraiser featuring chef Monika Sudakov of the Chestnut Street Inn. The participants enjoyed shrimp scampi, a salad of fresh greens from Coneflower Farm, with pomegranate, roasted pistachios, goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette dressing, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and amaretto brownies. Recipes for these dishes are available at the library. In addition, Sudakov has offered to donate $5 of every purchase of her cookbook to the library through the month of December (please mention the library). The cookbooks are available at the Chestnut Street Inn, 301 E. Chestnut St., Sheffield, or by calling (815) 454-2419, for $17. Sudakov has agreed to do another cooking fundraiser for the library later in the winter. If you missed this one, you get another chance to get in on the fun.

TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Library invites the public to attend its annual Christmas Open House from 9 a.m. to noon on Sat., Dec. 5. Homemade cookies and hot apple cider will be served.

LASALLE — The LaSalle Public Library will offer “Lincoln Circuit Markers: The Real Lincoln Highway” by Guy Fraker at 6 p.m. Tuesday. This PowerPoint presentation investigates the Lincoln Circuit Marking Association and the markers they laid between 1916 and 1922, in an effort to rediscover the routes Lincoln and his fellow lawyers took as they rode the circuit.
