The Bureau Valley Storm rode the inside muscle of center Melanie Thompson for a 53-45 Three Rivers Conference win on the road Saturday at Morrison.

Thompson scored 14 points in the first half to lead the Storm to a 29-23 halftime lead. She finished with a game-high 23 points.

Torri Peterson (9 points) and Meghan Mussche (8) each hit three-point shots in the third quarter, as the Storm outscored the Mustangs 12-5 to open up a 41-28 lead.

Kewanee 55, Annawan 53: Chuck Blake’s Boiler Girls outscored the Bravettes 32-26 in the second half for Saturday’s non-conference win. Jaron Jackson led Annawan with 21 points, and Lauren Spivey added 12.

Varsity boys

Serena 62, Hall 56: The Little Ten Huskers rallied from a 20-13 first-quarter deficit to defeat the Red Devils in nonconference Saturday in Spring Valley.

Austin Helm led Hall (2-4) with 23 points.

Annawan 59, Pearl City 52: Sean Walker scored 14 points with seven rebounds, Ross Addis had 14 points, and Bryant Lybarger added 12 points to lead the Braves to victory in Saturday’s Shootout at Eastland.

Sophomore boys

At Stillman Valley: Princeton defeated the host Cardinals 40-35 Monday to take third place in the Stillman Tournament. Gabe Kelly had 14 points and Lance Jensen 11.

The Kittens opened with 54-26 win Saturday over Eastland behind Southern Foster (14) and Kelly (10), but fell to Byron 67-37 with Foster netting 14 and Kelley nine.

Junior high boys

At Ladd: Fifth seed DePue held off a rally by No. 4 Ladd to post a 35-34 win in Saturday’s opening round of the Bureau Valley Elementary Conference Tournament. Austin Zimmer had 20 points for DePue while Collin Aimone led the Indians with 14.

Preston Powers scored 10 points and Damon Quest had eight to lead LaMoille past Neponset 39-17. Nick Craven scored eight for the Bobcats.

No. 3 BV South got 14 points from Colby Wittig and 11 by Jake Smith to top Ohio 46-22. Josh Hawley led Ohio with eight points.

Carlton Senders had 13 points and Steven Fannin 11 to lead Bradford past Malden 48-10.

Bradford, the 7 seed, pulled off the upset of the tourney by knocking off No. 2 Annawan 44-43 Monday. Senders had 18 points for Bradford and Ben Foster 17 for Annawan.
