Tiger grapplers top Streator

Princeton 60, Streator 21: The Tigers’ wrestling team took a 60-21 win over host Streator Friday night in NCIC conference grappling action.

Nine Tigers picked up pinfall wins, Including Reese Bird (103), Brewer Ary (119). Eric Bickett (125), Reiter Bird (130), Cody Barringer (135), Earl Towne (145), Ted Bartoli (152), Dylan Olson (160), and Jacob Robison (215). Quickest pin honors went to Reese Bird for stopping his opponent 1:02 into their match, Brewer Ary took the longest to secure his pin win, getting it with 20 seconds to go in the match, at 5:40.

Junior high basketball

BVEC Tournament: Rich Zapf had some pretty big shoes to fill when he took over as basketball coach this season at DePue Junior High following 24-year veteran Al Bosnich. The new coach has filled them well.

Zapf’s Spartans have vaulted into the championship game of the Bureau Valley Elementary Conference tournament by upsetting No. 1 seed Bureau Valley North, Thursday, 33-28. DePue will face Bureau Valley South, which defeated Bradford.

Alex Acosta, a first-year player, led the Spartans with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Isaac Reyes added 10 points and Jesse Lopez had five assists.

Tyler Barnas had 11 points and Bryan Arteberry nine for North.

Girls’ basketball

St. Bede 46, Roanoke-Benson 27: Kelsey Moravcec scored 10 points and Emily Considine and Brittany Burgess added seven each for the Lady Bruins Thursday. Burgess netted all seven of her points in the first quarter to help the Lady Bruins snag a 14-7 lead.

Kayla MacDavitt scored 10 points to lead the St. Bede F/S to a 33-13 win.

Serena 63, LaMoille/Ohio 19: The Lady Lions never scored more than six points in any quarter in Thursday’s Little Ten loss to the Huskers in LaMoille. Mareli Feliciano led the Lady Lions with six points and Mary Bartoli added five.

“I told the girls we aren’t going to win many games with just 19 points. We need to get some offense going,” L/O coach Bill Stouffer said.

Midland 76, DePue 17: Carmen Lopez scored 10 points for the Lady Little Giants In Thursday’s Tri-County Conference loss.
