John Byers
OHIO, Ill. — John C. Byers, 66, of 208 W. Jackson St., Ohio, Ill., died suddenly Monday, Dec. 14, 2009.
Born Nov. 18, 1943, in Kewanee to Johnnie M. and Beulah F. (Palmer) Byers, he married Ramona Poole April 16, 1982, in Princeton. She survives.
He was employed at Schultz Trucking as a truck driver for many years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on the Ohio Village Board.
Also surviving are one son, Jeff (Cindy) Byers of Wyanet; two daughters, Laurie (Dan) Koch and Vicky (Fred) Appleman, both of Amboy; two stepsons, Brian (Michelle) Shofner of Utica and Gary (Carrin) Shofner of McHenry; three sisters, Barbara (Robert) Brandau and Joyce Cassidy, both of Ohio, Ill., and Wanda (Tom) Wright of Frankfort, Ind.; two brothers, Raymond (Diane) Byers of Ohio, Ill., and George (Sue) Byers of Princeton; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carol Byers and Linda Illing.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Katie Mapes, pastor of the Ohio United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Ohio.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
