DAVISBURG, Mich. — Milton Forrest Searl, 87, died at home in Davisburg, Mich., of heart failure on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009.

He was a quiet, generous man, liked by all, devoted to family and friends, the Catholic Faith, and his work. He loved outer space, mathematics, comics and nature.

He was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Princeton, Ill., the only child of Forrest W. and Frieda M. (Cork) Searl. During World War II he served in the Navy, then graduated in economics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He started his career with Stanlin Oil in Tulsa, Okla., where he met and married Mildred F. Durkee. His 40-plus year career in "Energy Economics" led him to positions with the U.S. Government at the Atomic Energy Commission and the President's Office of Science and Technology, and finally to the private sector with Resources for the Future and ultimately to the Electric Power Research Institute, Palo Alto, Calif.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert and Thomas (Cecilia); four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated by Divine Mercy Parish at St. Rita Catholic Church in Holly, Mich., at noon on Dec. 30. He will be buried along side his wife in Los Altos, Calif. A committal service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly, Mich.

Memorial donations may be made to Divine Mercy Parish of Davisburg, Mich.
