DEPUE — Rafael M. Galindo, 92, of 1108 St. Paul St., DePue, died at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

Born Oct. 29, 1917, in El Paso, Texas, to Carmen Mendevil, he married Seberina Padilla Sept. 5, 1942, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in DePue. She survives.

He was an accounting clerk at New Jersey Zinc Co. in DePue until retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in DePue and DePue VFW.

Also surviving are three daughters, Patricia (Paul) Clark of Huntley, Josephine Stock of East Peoria and Roseanne (Douglas) Houle of Warrenville; two sons, Marty Galindo of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rafael John (Colleen) Galindo of Coralville, Iowa; one sister, Annie (Pete) Petris of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Rafael  Galindo Jr.; five brothers; and one sister.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, DePue, with the Rev. Kevin Creegan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DePue.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Veteran Affairs Illiana Health Care System of Peoria or the donor’s choice.
