Pheasants Forever banquet set for March 11
We are getting ready to finish off another month and that makes us closer to spring. When I woke up Monday morning, I said, “Oh no, more snow.” It was wet and heavy, but as I looked around the neighborhood, I noticed every little bush and shrub covered with snow. It was like nature tried to balance as many snow flakes as possible on every branch. Most of it was gone by noon.
We still have some decent ice, and several fishermen have been making good use of it. Some nice bluegill and crappies have been caught during the last two weeks. Time to heat up some oil and have a good fish fry.
We still have some room for fishermen to join us on our Canadian trip. Six openings are available for the May 28 - June 5 trip and for the June 12-19 trip. A passport is needed this year so if anyone is interested in joining our group, contact me at (815) 872-5431, in the evenings.
• The Bureau County Pheasants Forever Chapter will hold its annual membership banquet March 11 at the Bureau County Metro Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for a social hour with a sit down plated prime rib dinner to start at 6 p.m.
At about 7 p.m., there will be a live auction with numerous items such as framed prints and special encore items. A silent auction plus many raffles and drawings will be conducted throughout the night. About six guns will be available at the banquet by means of raffles or drawings.
Get your tickets in advance as there is limited seating. This is a family event and is the major fund raiser for the committee. A very large percentage of the funds generated from the banquet remain with the committee and are used for youth events and habitat.
For tickets call, Eric Paull at (815) 646-4844.
• Eight days from the pheasant feast will be the Whitetails Unlimited banquet. This is always a great evening for our local hunters to get together and talk about that huge buck that was too far out of range or a limb got in my way. I will give the full rundown for the banquet in my next article. Please try to support both of these events.
• Finally, thanks for all the people involved in the presentation of the Mike Sitterly Basketball Award to Princeton High School last Friday night. Now his memory can live forever in this community.
