SHEFFIELD — Julia Joan Thompson, 96, of Sheffield died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Aspen Rehab and Health Care in Silvis.

Born Aug. 5, 1913, in Kewanee to Peter and Mary (Kuskis) Wetch, she married Carl O. Thompson May 30, 1953, at St. Anthony’s Church in Kewanee. He died Nov. 18, 1980.

She was reared and educated in Kewanee and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1931. She worked for many years at Illinois Commercial Telephone Co. and Illinois Power Co. in Kewanee. She also worked a few years in the Kewanee High School office and Kraft Cheese in Manlius.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield, and its church circles. She was an active member of the Kewanee YMCA, and during the war years, was the director of the women’s programs. She was also a member of the “Y” board.

Surviving are one sister, Helen Hill of Rock Island; many nieces and nephews, including Kathy Lewellen of Moline and Sharon Sizemore of East Moline; and great-nieces and great-nephews, including a special great-niece, Teresa Colwell of Moline.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joseph Wetch; and three sisters, Berniece Jennings, Ann Wetch and Magdalene Wetch.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield, with Father Jerry Logan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee, at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Sheffield Rescue Unit.
