Concert set

PRINCETON — The Princeton Community Band will present its fifth concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Princeton. Refreshments will be by the Princeton Lions Club. Lawn chairs are suggested. The last concert of the season will be Aug. 1

Auxiliary collections

PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton continues to collect “Box Tops for Education” and aluminum pull tabs for its “Children and Youth” program. Donations are appreciated and can be dropped off at the Legion Post vestibule at 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton.

Cooking school

SPRING VALLEY— The University of Illinois Extension – Bureau County Office will offer a three-day summer cooking school from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 2-4 in the community room of the Spring Valley City Hall Administration Building. Youth, ages 8-12, will learn how to prepare healthy snacks or meals along with food safety, proper cooking techniques and manners and table etiquette. Registration is required by calling the extension office at 815-875-2878. Space is limited to 12 students.

PMH offers medication meetings

PRINCETON — Perry Memorial Hospital will offer “Brown Bag” medication meetings for the community. The public is invited to bring their prescription medications, over-the-counter medications and any vitamins/herbal remedies they are currently taking and meet with Perry’s pharmacist, Jim Burke, to discuss questions regarding medication compatibility or other concerns. These short, one-on-one, private meetings will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 28 in the Lower Level Conference Room 1 at Perry. An appointment time must be scheduled by calling Melody Schultz at 815-876-4454.

Genealogy meeting

KEWANEE — The Henry County Genealogical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Steve Morrison will give a program on the genealogy software application, RootsMagic 4.” The public is welcome to attend.

Ice cream social

WALNUT — An ice cream social sponsored by the Red Oak Brotherhood will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Red Oak Methodist Church. The menu will include pork chop sandwiches, brats, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw, beans, ice cream, pie or cake and beverage. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
