Open cross country race
SHEFFIELD — Bureau Valley Cross Country coach Dale Donner is hosting an open cross country style race Wednesday at the Hennepin Canal Welcome Center on Route 40, about one mile south of Interstate 80. Donner said that the race will be low key, about two miles long, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. The race is open to all area high school athletes. There is no cost to run, and anyone interested should arrive at 6 p.m. to get instructions and warm up.

Members from the 2000 Spring Valley/Ladd All-Star team with be having a reunion at Kirby Park at 1 p.m. Aug. 7 for players, families, and friends of the team. For those attending, pictures, scrapbooks and videos are encouraged. Chicken and pasta will be provided with donations accepted to cover the cost, bring a dish to pass. • Bureau Valley Junior Football
MANLIUS — Bureau Valley JFL will hold registration for the 2010 season from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 6 and from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 7 at Borquin Field in Manlius. The registration fee is $40. A parent or guardian must be present to sign the forms. Equipment will also be handed out during this time. All players must have a physical handed in before they can practice. Demolition Derby
PRINCETON — The Bureau County Fair Demolition Derby will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 and is promoted and run by the fair board.
The classes and guaranteed payouts this year are as follows: Old Iron – $1,000 to win; 80 and Newer — $1,000 to win; Compacts — $500; Trucks — $500; and something new will be the stock class with passengers.

Special Olympics auction
PERU — Starved Rock Area Special Olympics will hold its eighth annual fundraising auction on Aug. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Celebrations 150 in Utica. This year’s theme is “Round Up” with 20 in a row country 96.5 The Wolf’s Cowboy serving as the master of ceremonies. The auction is open to the public, and all proceeds will directly benefit the 550 Special Olympic athletes in this area.
Presenting sponsors are Miller Group Charitable Trust and 96.5 The Wolf. Tickets for the auction are now on sale for $25 and include a dinner buffet and entertainment.
