Bureau Valley School Board
MANLIUS — The Bureau Valley School Board approved the Alternative Education and Behavior Disorder budgets at its meeting Aug. 16. The Alternative Education budget totals $344,536, and the Behavior Disorder budget totals $567,519, 3 percent less than last year.
Salaries remain the same as last year in conjunction with the Bureau Valley salary freeze, and the programs reflect a 24 percent decrease due to the number of teacher aides being reduced.
Program Administrator Egan Hicks said the average daily enrollment for the alternative Program is 18 students and 19 for the behavior disorder program.
In other business, the board took action on the following items :
• Heard the parking lots have been spray patched.
• Approved the renewal of the district’s liability insurance with Scott Brothers. The annual cost increased from $149,000 to $168,597. Bute said workers compensation claims were responsible for the biggest part of the increase.
• Awarded the fuel contract to Manlius Oil Company in the amount of $102,192. Other bids received were from AgView FS at $105,852 and Michlig Ag at $106,581.
• Heard the administration should be moving into the temporary office quarters as early as Tuesday. Bute said boxes that were sent out to be cleaned following the fire have been returned. Due to the size of the quarters, school board meetings will remain at the high school library.
• Discussed the possible construction of a building for buses and students after the former Sheffield school building is demolished. Bute said estimates for the building are between $80,000 and $100,000.
• Approved employment contracts for principals Denise Bolin, Gina Hall, Michael Patterson and Egan Hicks, and for assistant principal/athletic director Eric Lawson.
• Employed Taryn Hasbrook as teacher assistant, Vicki Litherland as eighth-grade volleyball coach at Bureau Valley South, and Pat Lebahn as seventh-grade volleyball coach at Bureau Valley South.
The next regular board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Bureau Valley High School Library. It will be preceded by a public hearing at 7:15 p.m. on the district budget.
