Club champions have been crowned at area golf courses and many of the names have familiar rings to them.

Laramie Storm repeated as the club champ at Wyaton Hills, shooting a 144. Denny Miller was club runner-up at 151.

In other flights, Al Manrriquez (165) and Ron Cordum (173) placed 1-2 in A, Bob Carlson (171) and Fred Kimberley (173) were 1-2 in B and Russ Humphreys (177) and Greg Rowley (203) were top golfers in C.

On the women’s side, Michelle Coble won her first club title at Wyaton, topping Anna Flaig 165-190. Coble, a former Augustana College linkster, finished fourth in this year’s Illinois Valley Women’s Open.

Helen Lilley (187) and Carol Towne (194) took honors in A flight, Deb Maritz (203) and Michelle Rowley (210) placed 1-2 in B flight and Dorothy Oaks (216) and Judy Farley (227) led C flight.

At Hunter’s Ridge in Princeton, Katie Farrell was low gross champion and Linda Winkelman the low net champion. Runner-ups were Lynn Farley and Sheila Rithmiller.

Doug Arends edged Tom Pranka, 151-154, to take the men’s A flight after 36 holes. Jim Tarrance (167) was four strokes better than Scott Hartman while Bill Livey (159) and George Johnson (190) were top seniors.

At Hidden Lake in Sheffield, Karen Taylor won her second straight women’s title with a three-round total of 123. Taylor, who has won six titles dating back to 1992, said she been shooting pretty good this season, but hasn’t quite hit her goal of parring either the front or back 9.

Sally Riley (128) was runner-up, Carol Roberson (133) third and Barb Peterson (136) fourth.

Other flight winner was Nancy Anderson (C).

At Spring Creek in Spring Valley, former champ Kathy Potthoff got back on top of things. Hilda Koppens took second. Linda Templeton and Barb Mertes were 1-2 in A flight, Connie Banks and Sue Olszewski were 1-2 in B flight and Connie Eick and Jan Dagraedt were 1-2 in C flight.

Defending champ Jim Moskalewicz was to play Fred Steele  and Nicholas Potthoff was to square vs. Mark Pierson in the men’s tourney.

Bekki Prokup and Phil Nanni won the junior titles.

Chip shots: Indian Hills Golf Club in Tiskilwa will hold its club championships Sept. 11-12. Former PHS Tiger standout Kenney Jones and Karen O’Neill are defending club champions. ..
