OHIO — The Ohio Grade School Board took action on the following items at its meeting Aug. 17:

• Tabled a discussion on the school lunch program. Superintendent Sharon (Flesher) Sweger said she does not have enough information to discuss or make a decision because the schools she contacted have not returned the data.

• Approved the tentative Fiscal Year 2011 budget for public display. The budget hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21, with the regularly scheduled meeting immediately following.

• Approved inter-library agreement between the Ohio Public Library District and the Ohio Community School Districts pending high school board approval.

• Approved as qualified evaluators Principal Mark Downey and Superintendent Sharon Sweger.

• Thanked Doug Phalen (Phalen Steel) for donating the new sidewalk on the north side of the building where the teachers park.

• Heard the heating duct was hooked up in the boys’ bathroom by the gym, and the drain was repaired in the boys’ bathroom above the fifth-grade classroom.

• Discussed a parent who would like to bring one or two of her home-schooled children in for band. Sweger said the mother would have to enroll her child as a part-time student.

• Heard there are 83 students enrolled at the grade school level. Five students moved out while eight moved in. There are nine students in kindergarten.

• Heard fifth-grade teacher Sarah Hansen is very close to leaving for her maternity leave. A substitute has been hired to cover the maternity leave.

• Heard there are 17 girls out for volleyball.

• Reviewed the ISAT scores. Principal Mark Downey said sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students all (except for one) met or exceeded in math and science. Third grade met 100 percent in math. Fifth grade 93 percent met in math also.

• Approved an addendum to the BD coordinator’s stipend.

• Approved the teachers’ one year contract as negotiated pending high school board approval.

• Approved transportation coordinator’s stipend pending high school board approval.

• Approved wage increases for the support staff as presented pending high school board approval.

• Approved increasing Downey’s wages as presented pending high school board approval.
