PRINCETON — An area woman’s dream is ... To Be Continued.
After six years of research, Wilmington native Michelle Black knew she was ready to open her own consignment business. Following a dream that began right out of high school with her first retail job, Black meticulously prepared herself for the day when she would have her own store.
Four years ago, Black and her family decided to settle in Hennepin. She then started looking for the perfect place to open her store. After looking in LaSalle and Peru, Michelle found Princeton.
“I fell in love,” she said. “I especially wanted to find a building on South Main Street.”
In February of this year, Michelle and her husband put her dream into motion when they purchased the storefront located at 514 S. Main St. and began a complete renovation of the property, which included restoring the original tin ceiling and replaced all the walls and flooring.
Since opening To Be Continued ... Consignment Boutique, Black said she has been very busy, and she very much appreciates how cordial and welcoming the neighboring business owners have been. They’re “telling people about my store, buying merchandise and shopping here,” she said. “The hardest part is telling myself not to buy! There are stressful days, but at the end of the day I tell myself, ‘I’m living my dream.’”
Black said she is especially thankful to her husband for helping her fulfill her dream.
“He truly is so supportive. I couldn’t have done it without him. He’s my best friend,” she said.
The To Be Continued … Consignment Boutique hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Because of the Homestead Festival, Black plans to extend her hours to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the event.
Items accepted for consignment are clothes, home decorations, toys and furniture. Clothes should be in season, freshly cleaned/pressed and on hangers ready for display. Home decorations, toys and furniture should be in “like new” condition. For more information on consigning, stop in at the store and talk to Black.
