The hats are in the ring
With the candidate filing period ending at 5 p.m. Monday, Bureau County voters are getting their first look at the March 20, 2012, primary election ballot.
The primary election will determine the candidates for the Republican and Democratic Party on the November 2012 presidential election ballot.
In one of three county-wide races listed on the primary ballot, incumbent Patrick Herrmann of Spring Valley is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for the office of Bureau County State’s Attorney. Herrmann has been state’s attorney for the past 14 years. Challenger Desiree Sierens of Marengo is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for the state’s attorney’s office. Sierens, the former Desiree Bromme, is originally from Sheffield.
In the race for the office of Bureau County Circuit Clerk, Dawn Reglin of Manlius is running unopposed on the March primary ballot as the Democratic Party candidate for the circuit clerk office. Lucy Taylor of Dover and Mary Romanelli Dremann of Princeton are competing to be the Republican Party’s candidate for the circuit clerk office. Current Circuit Clerk Laurie Abrahams is not seeking re-election.
For the county coroner office, incumbent Janice Wamhoff of Princeton is running unopposed on the primary ballot as the Democratic Party candidate for the county coroner position. Randy Grant of Wyanet is running unopposed for the Republican Party’s nomination for the county coroner position.
The primary ballot will also cover the 26 open Bureau County Board seats. There are two contested primary races, both for the Republican Party, in District 6 and District 7.
District 1 – Joseph R. Bertetto of Sheffield.
District 2 — Dale Anderson of rural Tiskilwa.
District 3 — Jim Donarski of Princeton.
District 4 — Jeff Mangrich of Princeton.
District 5 — Marsha Lilley of Princeton.
District 6 – Derek Whited of Princeton; Tony Pease of Princeton.
District 7 – Marshann Entwhistle of rural Princeton; David Turpen of Tiskilwa.
District 8 – Kristi A. Warren of Princeton.
District 9 -- Loretta Volker of Princeton.
District 10— Ralph Anderson of Wyanet.
District 11 — Steve Sondgeroth of LaMoille.
District 13 — Dan Rabe of rural Princeton.
District 14 – Robert W. Albrecht of rural Ohio.
District 17 – James D. Thompson of rural Sheffield.
District 18 – Daniel J. Hyson of DePue.
Seeking positions on the Bureau County Board on the Democratic Party ballot are the following:
District 12 – Robert McCook of Cherry.
District 17 – Todd Ratliff of rural Sheffield.
District 18 -- Mike Kohr of rural Princeton.
District 19 -- Tom Dobrich of DePue,
District 20 -- Thomas Giordano of Ladd.
District 21 – Deb Feeney of Dalzell.
District 22 — Joseph Bassetti of Spring Valley.
District 23 – John Baracani of Spring Valley.
District 24 — Rob Pozzi of rural Spring Valley.
District 25 — Mary Jane Marini of Spring Valley.
Winners of the March 20, 2012, primary ballot will go forward to the November 2012 election. As of now, the only contested county board races in November will be for District 17 and District 18.
However, persons do have until Jan. 19 to file a Declaration of Intent to be a write-in candidate on the March 20, 2012, primary ballot, Bureau County Clerk Kami Hieronymus said Monday. If no candidate is chosen at the March 2012 ballot, the political party can seek a person to fill the position.
Not seeking re-election to the Bureau County Board are current county board members Mark Pierson, District 6; Mike Maynard, District 15; Marc Wilt, District 16; and Laura Rose, District 26.
