TAMPICO — Ruby M. Newman, 92, of Tampico died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Ruby was born on June 12, 1919, in Xenia, Ill., the daughter of Harvey and Nancy (Weems) Hunter. She was united in marriage to Warren Newman on June 30, 1937. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1990.

She was a homemaker and Stanley Home dealer, a member of Tampico United Methodist Church and O.E.S. of Prophetstown, and was a Cub Scout leader.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Gayle Blackert of Tampico; two grandchildren, Jaramie (Jackie) Pierceson and Jenee Blackert; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Brennan, Jace and Justin; and a special friend, Jack Comben.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren; two sons, Harold and Lowell; and two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico with the Rev. Esther Lee, pastor of Tampico United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established in her memory to the Tampico Ambulance Association.
