Evelyn Spiegel

GENESEO — Evelyn M. Foes Spiegel, 91, of Geneseo, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo.

Evelyn was born on July 18, 1920, in Annawan, the daughter of Frank and Matilda (Buryck) Hamlink. She was a 1938 graduate of Mineral High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Lawrence Foes on July 28, 1938; they separated and he then preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2001. She later married Marvin Spiegel on June 26, 1986; he preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2010. Evelyn was a private caregiver for many years in hospitals and nursing homes retiring from the Whitting Home, Kewanee, at the age of 75. She was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. Her greatest love was her entire family.

Survivors include her three sons, Ron (Kathy) Foes of Annawan, Robert Foes of Mineral and Richard (Carolyn) Foes of Princeton; six grandchildren, Jeffery Foes, Todd Foes, Stephanie Evans, Jennifer Foes, Scott Foes and Christopher Foes; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.

A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo, with the Rev. Michael Pakula officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson.

Visitation for Evelyn will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, prior to Mass at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
