Have some fun at Discovery Center Family Fun Days

ROCKFORD — The Discovery Center Museum will host Get Moving: Playing with Food from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Come discover your plate while you play with portions, dive into dairy, get goofy with grains, pick your proteins, vary your veggies, and flip for fruit. Test your knowledge of “every day” and “sometimes” foods, make a placemat and participate in hands–on activities! Bean Sprouts - Hip and Healthy Kids Café will be hosting a cooking class for a limited number of children age 5 and up from 2 to 2:30 p.m. and from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Get Moving: Playing with Food is one of 13 Family Fun Day events planned between January and May of 2012. Designed as educational and entertaining programs for families, Family Fun Days focus on a specific subject matter and then explore that subject through various means, including activities, demonstrations, make-and-take projects, performances and the like.

Discovery Center Museum is a non-profit science and children’s museum with more than 200 hands-on exhibits, planetarium, special area for children under 6, and an outdoor science park. Discovery Center Museum, the nation’s fourth best children’s museum as cited by Child magazine, is located inside Riverfront Museum Park at 711 N. Main St., Rockford. General admission to the museum is $7 adults, $7 children (ages 2 to 17) and free to children under 2 years and museum members. Hours of operation are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
