PRINCETON — Students and faculty at St. Louis Catholic School in Princeton are excited about events and projects planned for the upcoming Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 29-Feb. 3. “We always look forward to this time,” Principal Mary Paula Schmitt said. “It creates a buzz and energy for education and spirituality that carries on for the rest of the year.”

Catholic Schools Week celebrates what makes Catholic education distinctive and exceptional. During the week, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to the church, the communities and the nation. It builds community awareness of and involvement in Catholic schools throughout the country. It honors those who contribute to the success of our schools — students, families, faculty and staff, volunteers, community supporters and local and national leaders.

“St. Louis is Bureau County’s only Catholic elementary school and we want to show everyone how valuable a faith-based education is for children of all faiths,” Schmitt said.

The schedule for this year’s Catholic Schools Week includes:

Sunday — Children’s Mass featuring the Quarter Notes and Half Pints at 9 a.m.; a Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast after the Masses; a book fair in the gymnasium; and at 4 p.m. a family pizza and game evening.

There will be an 8 a.m. to noon open house that will include kindergarten and preschool registration. Interested parents are welcome to visit and tour the school and take a look at what St. Louis has to offer. There will be family projects on display.

Monday — Crazy Accessory Day; Career Day with presentations from community members and parents and a special taco lunch.

Tuesday — Girl’s Volleyball game at home versus Dimmick (Pack the Place Night); Spirit Shirt day; “School Prayer Partners” lunch; all school Bingo for Principal for a Day

Wednesday — All School Adoration and Benediction; Chess Club; Non-Uniform Day to raise money to educate a student in Cameroon, Africa.

Feb. 2 — Non-Uniform Day (comfy), Cocoa and Cookie Day and guest readers.
