MALDEN — Walmart Transportation recently presented a check for $2,000 to Malden Grade School for its after school program.

The program, which operates five days a week for three hours a day, employs two staff members who provide tutoring and instruction to the attending students. Lessons about health and fitness, and a healthy snack are provided.

Students in the program are also provided with homework help. The program provides additional supports for students who often cannot afford snacks, study materials or do not have parents at home to provide help at home with nightly studies. The program workers work closely with the classroom teacher to acquire additional strategies to meet the needs of all students. Gifted students are also members of the after school program and they are given activities that help push them to reach their full potential.
