LASALLE — Geraldine Lois Wheelock, 89, of LaSalle, formerly of Princeton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

Born Aug. 22, 1922, in Kewanee to George and Catherine (Miller) Matthews, she married Allen Wheelock Sept. 21, 1945, in Kewanee. He died May 1, 2004.

She served in the U.S. military during World War II in the Women’s Army Corps. She had worked at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton for 15 years.

She was a member of the Christ Community Church, Princeton, and the church Women’s Circle. She had been a Democratic polling judge and was active at Lake Thunderbird.

Surviving are three sons, Roger (Nancy) Wheelock of Princeton, Robert (Donna) Wheelock of Warrensburg and Mark (Dawn) Wheelock of LaSalle; five daughters, Marilyn (Alan) Coles of Fresno, Calif., Carol (Verne) Rennacker of Exline, Iowa, Catherine (Richard) Barker of Peoria, Maureen (Gene) Koehler of Streator and Michelle (Michael) Doan of Peru; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter, Kirsten.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Brian Strom, Christ Community Church in Princeton, officiating.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton, with military honors by the Princeton Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Christ Community Church in Princeton for mission work.
