TISKILWA — John Richard Whitfield, 85, of Tiskilwa passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.

Born Oct. 6, 1926, in Tiskilwa to Milburn and Grace (Babcock) Whitfield, he married Doris Borg March 3, 1951, in Tiskilwa. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2003.

He had worked with the Bureau County Highway Department, served as Indiantown Township road commissioner and also had mowed Mt. Bloom Cemetery. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his mother, Grace Whitfield of Spring Valley; three children, Randy (Becky) Whitfield of Peru, Julie (Larry) Musil of Tiskilwa and Jim (Barb) Whitfield of Wyanet; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Rounsaville of Centralia; and one brother, Douglas (Jean) Whitfield of Peru.

He was also preceded in death by his father and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Lloyd Doyens officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
