PRINCETON — Marlene J. Carlson, age 70, of Princeton died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Marlene was born on Nov. 2, 1941, in Princeton, the daughter of Marion and Ruby (Summers) Roggy. She was united in marriage to John J. Carlson on Oct. 3, 1959, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2005.

She was raised and educated in Princeton and worked at Lloyal’s Super Market, Kroger Grocery and was a homemaker until moving to Manlius with her husband in 1976. Marlene and her husband were foster parents, she worked for Manlius School and was a volunteer EMT on the Manlius Ambulance until they moved back to Princeton in 1992. She was also employed at Princeton Shell Express Lanes until her retirement in 2003.

Marlene attended the New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, enjoyed playing cards and making bird houses.

She is survived by one son, Scott (Tammy) Carlson of Walnut; four grandchildren, Allan (fiancé Brittany Christensen) Carlson of Walnut, Aaron (fiancé Teresa Zellner) Carlson of Mansfield, Ohio, and Kaleen Carlson and Keegan Carlson, both of Walnut; one brother, Jack (Myrna) Roggy of Wyanet; one sister, Mary Crawford of Smyrna, Tenn.; one half brother, Tom (Rose) Roggy of Princeton; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Raymond McAdams of Franklin Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one half brother, Dick Roggy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Laura Root, pastor of the New Hope Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Garland Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
