PONTIAC — Phyllis Abbott, 87 of Pontiac died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Evenglow Tjardes Health Care Center in Pontiac.
Phyllis was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Princeton, a daughter of Roy and Anna (Goethe) Nelson. She married John R. Abbott on June 27, 1948, in Princeton. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1992.
Mrs. Abbott graduated from Princeton High School in 1942. She received her nurses training at the Swedish Covenant Hospital, which is now known as North Park College. She was a medical professional as a registered nurse throughout her life.
Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pontiac, where she was very involved with the circles and committees. She was a member of the Evenglow Lodge Guild, the Medical Advisory Board and was the director of Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by three daughters, Caryl (Doug) McCoy of Pontiac, Jane (Mark) Reynolds of Macomb and Beth Boyce of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, Keli (Dave) Mrotek, Matthew McCoy, Nathan McCoy, Blake (Amy) Reynolds and Matthew (Christie) Reynolds; and five great-grandchildren, Parker McCoy, Gracelyn Mrotek, John Reynolds, James Reynolds and Aiden Reynolds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Pontiac with the Rev. Ray Owens, the Rev. Scott Carnes and the Rev. Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Walnut Cemetery in Walnut.
The Calvert & Martin Funeral Home inPontiac is handling the arrangements. Memorials in Phyllis’s name may be left to the First United Methodist Church of Pontiac or Evenglow Lodge.
