I am lovin’ this weather, although I hate to say it, I’m sure it’s not good for the plants and flowers who need that deep freeze every winter. Guess I’m torn — I sure love those flowers in the spring and summer, but I also love driving back and forth to work without worrying about sliding into some ditch. Another weather perk ... check out the western sky about 5 p.m. It’s still daylight!

Customer Service Kudos: Do you know an individual or a business that delivers great customer service. If so, send me an email at tsimon@bcrnews.com, and let me know about your experience. Following are the Kudos I received last week:
• Paula said, “Kudos to Postmaster Shannon Mattingly and the whole staff at the Princeton Post Office. I’m in the post office several times a week and have watched them helping a lot of customers. No matter how busy they are, they treat each person as someone important, and they routinely do little extras such as putting extra tape on a flimsy package or suggesting ways a person can save money on sending a shipment. Recently I had an unusual problem, and Shannon went out of her way to solve it for me, even calling me later to follow up. Princeton is lucky to have the postal staff we do.”
• Dave said, “The people at Midland States Bank go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. They even call me by name when I come through the door. That’s pretty good service, if you ask me, especially when we’re usually just known as a number in many other places of business.”
• Karla said, “Kudos to the Princeton (Public) Library for all their programs. On top of that, everyone is so helpful there. It makes you want to go to the library!”

Thought for the day: “Good judgment comes from experience; and experience, well, that comes from bad judgment.” Anonymous.

It’s difficult to believe this is the last day of January. Where did the first month of the year go? Wow! Wasn’t it just yesterday we were admiring the Christmas tree and enjoying the holidays with family and friends?
February is filled with all kinds of occasions. Probably the first one that comes to mind is Valentine’s Day. As you choose those special gifts for your sweethearts, please try to shop locally when you can. Flowers, candies, cards ... Bureau County merchants will appreciate your business.
Besides Valentine’s Day, other special events include the Super Bowl, Leap Year Day, American Heart Month, Library Lovers Month, National Black History Month, Groundhog Day, the beginning of Lent, the Daytona 500 ... and many more. Actually, there’s something every day of the year to celebrate, so make today count and enjoy!
Thanks for being a part of your hometown newspaper, and remember ... you are important to me and the BCR.
