PRINCETON — Kenlay Wallace Tobler, 78, of Princeton died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry.
Born June 11, 1933, in Oak Park to Thomas and Mary (Osler) Hood, she married Henry "Hank" Tobler June 15, 1957, in Peru. He survives.
She graduated from Illinois State University in 1955 with a degree in special education. She taught the deaf and hard of hearing at Franklin School in Elgin and then she became a wife and mother. After raising her family, she was a lead teacher at Illinois Valley Community College in the GED program.
She was active in PEO, Hardanger Club and Friends in Council. She served on the Library Board for many years and very much enjoyed bridge and her grandchildren. She was a former member of Hampshire Colony Congregational where she and her husband taught Sunday school.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Hank Tobler of Princeton; four children, Tonnie Tobler of Princeton, Hence (Gail) Tobler of Lakeville, Minn., Sue (Clayton) Heffter of Batavia and Charlie (Angela) Tobler of Long Grove; 12 grandchildren, Bill (Tamara) Tobler of Texas, Katie Kutka of Minnesota, Matt Tobler of Texas, Hank Tobler of Florida, Drew Tobler of Minnesota, Jake, Ben and Sam Heffter of Batavia, and Logan, Madeleine, Charles and Nathan of Long Grove; and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Sydney of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life Service will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton. Burial will be private and at a later date.
