PRINCETON — The Bureau County Board took action on the following items at its meeting Jan. 10:

• Heard a mandatory training for all board members on the Freedom of Information Act was required to be completed within six months.

• Heard updates on the assessments of St. Margaret's and Perry Memorial Hospital from Supervisor of Assessments Tom Sweeney and State's Attorney Pat Herrmann.

• Approved accepting the contract with Key Builders to manage the DCEO grant project to replace the windows and glass for the doors at the courthouse. Kristi Warren, chairman of the building and grounds committee, said the committee had reviewed the contract, and Key Builders is not bidding on the work but will manage the project for the board at an estimated cost of $13,000. If the board chooses to add the interior, pre-construction phase, Key Builders would be paid an estimated additional $9,400.

• Heard from Warren the Building and Grounds Committee is still working on the project to replace the HVAC at the jail, and no action was necessary.

• Heard from Warren the specifications for the lawn mowing and snow removal were approved and sent to Sheriff John Thompson to be posted in the newspaper.

• Approved allowing Phillip Mol to construct a new mosaic map of Bureau County for the commons area of the courthouse. Kohr said Mol will do the project for free and only wants notation of his company's name.

• Approved a advisory, non-binding recommendation about a new facility to be constructed by Pete Christensen Swine. Zoning Enforcing Officer Kris Donarski said the facility meets all eight of the siting criteria, which include being zoned for agriculture and not located on a floodplain.

• Asked the zoning committee to consider a spillers pay ordinance such as many area fire departments have.
