PRINCETON — Novas V. Durley, 21, formerly of DePue, has entered a guilty plea to the Class 4 felony of resisting a peace officer on Jan. 26 before Associate Circuit Judge C. J. Hollerich.

Durley has been sentenced to serve one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections and to pay $259 in restitution and court costs from his bond.

Durley was represented in court by Bureau County Public Defender Michael Henneberry. Prosecuting the case was Bureau County State’s Attorney Patrick Herrmann.

On Oct. 25, 2010, Durley got into a verbal altercation with a woman friend at a local medical facility. That verbal altercation escalated to the point where Spring Valley police were called. Efforts by the police department to diffuse the situation were unsuccessful and the police attempted to arrest Durley for disorderly conduct. A physical altercation then ensued between Durley and the Spring Valley officers. During the physical scuffle, one Spring Valley officer received a laceration to his elbow. Durley was then charged with the Class 4 felony of resisting a peace officer for causing the injury to the officer.

Durley was previously convicted of aggravated unlawful use of weapons in Cook County, for which he received probation. Subsequently, he was convicted of aggravated battery in Cook County and was sentenced to four and one-half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The Bureau County sentence will run consecutive to the Cook County prison sentence.
