DEPUE — DePue’s elementary students are staying warm this winter with good behavior. This year, all of DePue staff and students are working on displaying and encouraging positive behaviors throughout the school and community.

The entire Depue Elementary School is following a program called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The underlying theme of PBIS is teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as any core curriculum subject.

To celebrate the immense amount of positive behaviors displayed at school this year, thus far, the elementary students attended a luau hosted by their teachers.

Staff and students kicked off the celebration by getting into the luau mood with the proper attire; leis, sunglasses, grass skirts, and sandals were the favored look.

Students rotated through different stations including hula hoops and hula dancing, boat ‘scooter’ races, the limbo, lei making and assembling fruit kabobs.

The celebration concluded with the students and staff dancing to the locomotion through the school hallways.

Students who received zero referrals and had perfect attendance during second quarter will attend a pizza party held in their honor.
