Some players and coaches are approaching milestones as the 2011-12 basketball season winds down.

St. Bede boys’ coach Mike Kilmartin needs five more wins to record No. 400 for his career. He stands at 395-256 overall, including 311-225 as boys coach at four schools, including AlWood, DePue, Putnam County and Mendota, and 84-31 as girls coach at Mendota.

Princeton senior Jasmine Kunkel has scored 968 points for her career, needing to average 16 points in two regional games to reach 1,000. She stands fifth all-time at PHS, trailing Angie Noble (994), who graduated in 1987.

Kunkel’s classmate C.J. Rhodes (895) needs just five points to go over 900. She stands sixth all-time at PHS, squeezed between Kunkel and Austyn Miller (843).

Senior Jaclyn Kain already joined the 1,000-point club at Hall, standing at 1,112 for her career, good for third in school history. She trails only Kailey Klein (2,496) and Jen Andes (1,265).
Hall senior Kelle Nett (844) has surpassed the 800-point plateau, moving up to No. 4 behind Kain all-time at Hall.

Seeds planted: Fieldcrest (19-2) took the top seed in the Putnam County 2A boys basketball regional, a field including four teams with winning records. St. Bede (19-5) gained the second seed, Putnam County (17-5) the third seed and Hall (14-7) the fourth seed.

Defending regional champ Princeton, which beat Fieldcrest on Michael Murray’s last-second layup in Spring Valley, is seeded No. 7 behind Eureka and El Paso-Gridley.

The regional tips off Feb. 20 at R.M. Germano Gymnasium in Granville with Hall facing Eureka at 7:30 p.m with the winner to face Fieldcrest on Feb. 22. The second night games feature St. Bede vs. PHS and PC vs. EPG.

Bureau Valley landed the second seed in its own regional behind Three Rivers leader Riverdale. The Storm await the winner between the Feb. 20 opener between No. 3 Prophetstown and No. 6 Fulton at 8:10 p.m. Feb. 22 following Riverdale’s semi vs. the No. 4 Kewanee/No. 5 Morrison winner.

Princeton will host the 2A sectional.

Both LaMoile/Ohio and DePue landed No 7 seeds in 1A regionals. The Lions will host No. 2 seed Newman at 6 p.m. Feb. 21. Erie is the top seed. DePue meets No. 2 Henry-Senachine at Woodland, where Midland is top-seeded.
