DePue church approves new council officers

DEPUE — At its annual meeting on Jan. 22, the First Congregational Church of DePue approved new council officers for five-year terms. Presiding moderator, Cherie Sandberg, presented the slate of officers for approval.

Sharon Kopina will assume the position of moderator with Genevieve Hays as financial secretary and Cherie Sandberg will assume the clerk’s position. They join Robert Blair, who is in his second year as treasurer, and Jon Graham, in his second year as delegate. Outgoing moderator Cherie Sandberg was thanked for her years of service to the church in this position.
Approved as new coordinators were Jon Graham as deacon for worship and Phillip Mol as trustee for property. Sharon Kopina remains coordinator of public relations, replacing Beverly Harrison in publications, which includes publishing the monthly newsletter. Harrison published the newsletter for many years and was thanked for her work. She will assume the coordinator position of hospitality. They join Cherie Sandberg in Christian education, Robin Grilc in memorial, Katherine Spayer in music and flowers, Cheryl Steinz in library/history and Marie Van Cleave in stewardship.
Council meets at 5:30 p.m. the third Friday of every month in the Fellowship Hall. They will next meet Feb. 17 and complete the proposed budget for 2012 to present at the congregational meeting to be held Feb. 19.

Worship services are conducted by Pastor Sue Hamilton Graham on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. in the Church sanctuary. Light refreshments are served in the Fellowship Hall after services.
