PRINCETON — LaVerne C. Schmitt, 84, of Princeton and Branson, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at his home in Princeton.

Born Oct. 21, 1927, in Henry to Frank and Emily (Schrader) Schmitt, he married Lorraine A. Hamrick April 24, 1950, in Bristol, Ill. She survives.

He was a graduate of Princeton High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He owned and operated Dean’s Transfer Service Inc. from 1950 to 1999.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Princeton.

Also surviving are three children, Steven L. (Mary Paula) Schmitt of Princeton, Stuart (Shirley) Schmitt of Mapleton and Stephanie M. (Darrell) Robinson of Colona; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Norman Femrite of the First Lutheran Church, Princeton, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton, with military honors by the Princeton Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
