PRINCETON — The Zearing Child Enrichment Center in Princeton will host a Scholastic Book Fair next week. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily Monday through Friday. The book fair offers specially priced books and educational products, including popular series, award-winning titles, new releases, adult bestsellers and other great reads from more than 100 publishers. Funds raised will help purchase books for classroom libraries. The center is at 633 Masonic Drive in Princeton.
Meeting set
PRINCETON — The Princeton Jr. Home Extension will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of hostess Dorothy Johnson. The co-hostess will be Ramona Wedding. The lesson, “The cost of managing your money,” will be given by Dorothy Johnson.
Breastfeeding support
SPRING VALLEY — LaLeche League of the Illinois Valley, a breastfeeding support group, will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday in Spring Valley. This monthly group helps mothers gain knowledge and support from other breastfeeding moms. February’s discussion will revolve around, but is not limited to, “The Family and the Breastfed Baby.” Expecting moms are encouraged to attend, as well as new and experienced moms. Hall fundraiser
SPRING VALLEY — Hall Education Foundation will host a fundraiser from 4 to 8:30 p.m. March 5 at Rip’s in Ladd. The menu includes a chicken dinner, fries and dessert. Drinks not included. Donation is $6. Carry-outs will be at the front door only. Walk-ins welcome. There will also be a bake sale and raffle. Any donations of baked goods are appreciated.
Special program
PRINCETON — “How To Communicate With An Alien,” an educational and interactive program presented by John Munoz, will be presented from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Princeton High School auditorium. This presentation is open to the public.
Support group
SPRING VALLEY — “Rainbows,” a children’s support group through life’s difficult changes of death, divorce and loss, will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22 in Room 129 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. For more information, call 815-664-1639 or 815-223- 5346, ext. 1639.
Wild game supper
MANLIUS — The Manlius Sportsmen’s Club annual wild game supper for members will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25 at the clubhouse. Each member is entitled to bring a guest. New members are welcome. Membership dues are $20 for the year.
Meal planned
PERU — The First Congregational Church of Peru will host a soup and sandwich meal from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Members of the community are invited to enjoy a hearty bowl of soup, a tasty sandwich and Christian friendship. There is no charge. The church will celebrate its 175th anniversary later this year. The church, which is handicap accessible, is at 1431 Fourth St. Peru. The Rev. David Heidemann is currently serving as interim pastor. For more information, contact Sylvia Heidemann at 815-224-2098.
Foundation fundraiser
SPRING VALLEY — St. Margaret’s Hospital Foundation presents a Tribute to Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, a night featuring three bands: The Sliver Pickers, The Hillbilly Rock Band and Phil ‘N’ The Blanks. The dance will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Eagle’s Lodge in Peru. Doors open at 6 p.m. and food and drink are available for purchase. Proceeds to benefit St. Margaret’s Care for Diabetes (both Jennings and Cash suffered from diabetes).
Tickets cost $10 each and can be purchased at the following businesses: St. Margaret’s Gift Shop, Spring Valley City Bank, Hackman Insurance Office, Dr. Lee Ceresa’s Office, HyVee Grocery and Studio 718. For more information, call Diane at 815-664-7260.
Fish fry
OHIO — The Ohio Booster Club fish fry will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 24, with servings at the Ohio Schools and Pipe’s Pub. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens (60 plus) and students 12 and under. Carry-outs available and deliveries will be made in Ohio by calling 815-376-4414 or 815-376-2934.
