Princeton City Council

PRINCETON — The Princeton City Council conducted the following business at its Feb. 7 meeting in city hall:

• Adopted an ordinance increasing the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour on North Sixth Street between East Central Avenue north to Route 34, Elm Place.

• Adopted an ordinance to place a stop sign at North Dallas Street and East Central Avenue.

• Heard the city received $128,113 from its 1 percent share of state sales tax in January, compared to $132,299 received in January 2011. The city also received $42,044 from its 0.5 percent non home rule tax in January, compared to $42,721 received in January 2011. Year-to-date, from May 2011 through January 2012, the city received $1,253,411 from its 1 percent share of sales tax, which is an increase of $23,502 for the same time period in fiscal year 2011. Also, the city has received, year-to-date, $404,634 from its non home rule tax, which is an increase of $15,590 for the same time period in fiscal year 2011.

• Heard the city issued no residential, commercial or industrial building permits in January. In comparison, Princeton also issued no building permits in January 2011 or in January 2010.

• Appointed Katie Chamberlain to the Princeton Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals to fill the unexpired term of Joe Sledgister, with Chamberlain’s term to expire April 30, 2013.

• Approved payment of bills as follows: $8,769 for the Department of Public Affairs; $139,392 in the Department of Accounts and Finances; $108,604 in the Department of Public Health and Safety; $141,239 in the Department of Streets and Public Improvements; $346,095 in the Department of Public Properties and Utilities.
