Cavaliers topple the Bruins
The crosstown rivalry between St. Bede and LaSalle-Peru lived up to its hype Tuesday in LaSalle.
The host Cavaliers outscored the Bruins in the fourth quarter to post a 56-47 win.
Brad Groleau led the Bruins with 17 points with Luie Arriaga adding nine.
Ty Jakse and Jens Soderholm each scored 10 for the Cavs (9-11).
The Bruins fell to 20-6, three days after reaching school history by posting its first back-to-back 20 win seasons.
Serena 55, DePue 48: The visiting Huskers broke a 20-20 halftime by outscoring the Little Giants 35-28 over the second half for the nonconference win Tuesday. Jesse Lopez led the Little Giants with 16 points and Isaac Reyes and Alex Lopez added 10 each.
1A girls regionals
Annawan 86, LaMoille/Ohio 41: The Lady Lions were no match for the No. 1 ranked team in 1A, falling Wednesday at Amboy 86-41. Shiela Browning led the Lady Lions (5-24) with 14 points and Aubrey Molln added 12 and Alissa Schrader 10.
Celina VanHyfte had 33 points for Annawan (27-1), who will play Amboy in Friday’s regional finals. Amboy beat Granville 49-39 in Wednesday’s second game.
Junior college
At Oglesby: St. Bede product Alec Schwab scored 29 points to lead IVCC to a 71-67 win over Kishwaukee on the Hilltop Tuesday. Princeton’s Michael Murray had 17 points.
