Welcome to PHS’ Parent University
PRINCETON — Princeton High School is reaching beyond the classroom into the home with the implementation of a Parent University program.
The first Parent University is set for Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Sally Skinner Council Auditorium at PHS. Guest speaker John Munoz will talk on the topic “How to communicate with an ‘alien.’”
Munoz said he will help parents discover from which “planet” their “alien” son or daughter comes and also how parents can “decode” interplanetary body language. He will also talk about what he calls the two most powerful forces of communication on the planet.
The Parent University program is free to all PHS students and their parents.
PHS Principal Barb Schmidt said this is the first Parent University sponsored at the high school with Munoz also scheduled to present an all-school assembly Monday afternoon for students. Hopefully, the students will enjoy the assembly and bring their parents back that night for the Parent University, Schmidt said.
Munoz said his afternoon message is a message on the fragility of a teen’s life.
“The daily struggle and onslaught of which way to go, where to turn, what to do, is a constant with our teens,” Munoz said. “In this upsidedown world, making the right decisions is challenging and incredibly stressful. Between the parent(s), school, church and friends, it’s no wonder they don’t have a clue as to which end is up.”
Partnering with PHS with the Parent University outreach is the Community Partners Against Substance Abuse (CPASA) coalition. CPASA will work with PHS to find motivational speakers for the monthly Parent University programs, CPASA Chairman Dawn Conerton said.
“The good news about the Parent University is the presentations are especially designed to educate and empower parents on challenges they may come across raising today’s teen,” Conerton said.
